The scale of the crisis
Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of cervical cancer in the world[1], with about 177,000 new cases and 77,000 deaths annually.[1] Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ethiopia, and South Africa, part of Sub-Saharan Africa, have screening coverage of less than 10%.[2]
Screen Africa International works to save lives across the continent by making cervical and prostate cancer screening accessible to all, through education, advocacy, and stronger healthcare systems.
Our mission
Millions of people across Africa face significant barriers to cancer screening, including limited healthcare infrastructure, financial hardship, lack of awareness, and geographical challenges. Many cancers are still diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment is harder and survival is lower. We work with communities, healthcare professionals, governments, and international partners to change that.
